Why Does It Take So Long?
by Rick Warren

“The Lord your God will drive those nations out ahead of you little by little. You will not clear them away all at once” (Deuteronomy 7:22 NLT).

Although God could instantly transform us, He has chosen to develop us slowly. Jesus is deliberate in developing His disciples. Just as God allowed the Israelites to take over the Promised Land “little by little” so they wouldn’t be overwhelmed, He prefers to work in incremental steps in our lives.

Why does it take so long to change and grow up? There are several reasons.

We are slow learners. We often have to relearn a lesson forty or fifty times to really get it. The problems keep recurring, and we think, “Not again! I’ve already learned that!”—but God knows better. The history of Israel illustrates how quickly we forget the lessons God teaches us and how soon we revert to our old patterns of behavior. We need repeated exposure.

We have a lot to unlearn. Many people go to a counselor with a personal or relational problem that took years to develop and say, “I need you to fix me. I’ve got an hour.” They naïvely expect a quick solution to a long-standing, deep-rooted difficulty. Since most of our problems—and all of our bad habits—didn’t develop overnight, it’s unrealistic to expect them go away immediately.

Obama's Position On The Teaching Profession !!!

Is it likely that Obama's visit to Ghana will inspire the ordinary Ghanaian as well as our politicians and administrators to undertake a serious journey into SELF- EXAMINATION ? "An Unexamined Life is Not Worth Living". His address to the Ghanaian Parliament in Accra is a MASTERPIECE. Copies of the address must be made available to the general public. All citizens must make it a point to read it over and over again and meditate on it.

If 50.23 % of Ghanaians decide to change their attitude and refuse to give or accept bribes, the problem of corruption will be greatly reduced. Progress will become evident in our society. Social Justice will have a chance to thrive in our society. Pathological Greed, which is now considered as a norm among our Leaders and their close associates will gradually disappear. Tell yourself " Let there be true zero tolerance for corruption in Ghana. Let it begin with ME "

Govt is working hard to fix economy - Mills

The President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, has said the government is aware of the high expectations and anxiety of the electorate and is working hard to fix the economy in order to fulfil its electoral mandate.

He said contrary to the assertions of its political opponents that the issues confronting the well-being of the country had got out of its hand, “the government is in full control of developments in the country”.

President Mills said although the economy that the government inherited on its assumption of political power in January 2009 was severely challenged, several interventions had been taken to salvage it from a further slide and put it on an even keel to cushion the plight of the broad masses of the people.

Interacting with the presidential press corps at the Castle, Osu, on the occasion of his 65th birthday, President Mills said the government would not engage in any blame game with its opponents but concentrate all its efforts at fixing the economy to deal with the social problems of the people.

“We are not interested in blame games; we want to solve the problems of Ghanaians. That was why we were elected,” he said.

He said the government shared in the concerns of the vast majority of the people whom he said were going through very trying circumstances to make ends meet and would do everything within its power to alleviate their suffering.

EVISU denim, guess where my magpie logo came from????

We previously wrote about Scott Morrison being appointed the new chief executive officer of Evisu and the changes he had in store for the brand. At this year's Project New York trade show, buyers will get a glimpse at the Evisu jeans. Evisu is said to be focusing on authentic washes, new fits and a minimilization of the Evisu seagull pocket logo - with some styles featuring no seagull logo at all.

"We are showing an entirely new denim collection and I think people are going to see Evisu in a new light," said Morrison, who took the top job in May. "What happened in the Nineties was that Evisu became more of a streetwear brand that was very dependent on our seagull logo. People were buying it for the logo rather than the product."

It is no surprise that Morrison's new concept of Evisu takes a minimalist approach, since the two previous denim brands he oversaw, Earnest Sewn and Paper Denim & Cloth, both focused largely on the washes and fits, but kept its rear pockets low-key. All of the new Evisu product is made from selvedge denim, and retails from approximately $200 to $395. I admit, although I always admired Evisu's washes, I never really loved the back pocket logo, so this is interesting news. Can't wait to see more!

Mumbai-based Hindi-language film industry in India

Bollywood is the name given to the Mumbai-based Hindi-language film industry in India. When combined with other Indian film industries (Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada), it is considered to be the largest in the world in terms of number of films produced, and maybe also the number of tickets sold.

The term Bollywood was created by conflating Bombay (the city now called Mumbai) and Hollywood (the famous center of the United States film industry).

Bollywood films are usually musicals. Few movies are made without at least one song-and-dance number. Indian audiences expect full value for their money; they want songs and dances, love interest, comedy and dare-devil thrills, all mixed up in a three hour long extravaganza with intermission. Such movies are called masala movies, after the spice mixture masala. Like masala, these movies have everything.

The plots are often melodramatic. They frequently employ formulaic ingredients such as star-crossed lovers, corrupt politicians, twins separated at birth, conniving villains, angry parents, courtesans with hearts of gold, dramatic reversals of fortune, and convenient coincidences.

Obama's Ghana trip sends message across Africa

(CNN) -- President Barack Obama was due in Ghana Friday, generating excitement in the west African nation and envy among its neighbors with many seeing his visit as sending a message to governments over their poor records on stability.
President Obama says he chose Ghana partly because of the country's commitment to democracy.
Across Ghana, street vendors were stocking miniature American flags while citizens donned attire with pictures of the U.S. leader.
"People in Ghana are printing clothes for this occasion," said Adrian Landry, general manager of a beach hotel in the capital, Accra.
"The fact that his father is African and he picked us makes us special," he said. "He is endorsing our strong democracy in Ghana. This is historic."
The president's visit to the nation is the third by a sitting American leader. Bill Clinton was the first U.S. president to visit Ghana in 1998 as part of a six-nation Africa tour. Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush, stopped there as part of a four-nation Africa tour during his last year of office.
"Bush received a positive response, but it does not compare to this," Landry said.
Various prominent African-Americans, including Maya Angelou and Muhammad Ali, have made stops in the country.
As Ghana basked in the glow, media across Africa asked different variations of the same question: Why not us?
Obama summed up the answer in two words: democratic commitment.
"By traveling to Ghana, we hope to highlight the effective governance that they have in place," Obama said in an interview with AllAfrica.com, which highlights news from the continent.
During his one-day visit, Obama will meet his Ghanaian counterpart, John Atta Mills, who took office in January.
The peaceful election in the nation of 23 million is a far cry from recent votes in Zimbabwe and Kenya, where Obama's father hails from. The two countries plunged into postelection chaos last year, forcing leaders to form contentious coalition governments.
Ghana, which was the first sub-Saharan country to gain independence, went through growing pains, including a staunch military rule, but emerged as a democracy in 1992. It gained independence from Britain in 1957.
