Denim is more than just a cotton fabric; it inspires strong opinions within the hearts of

historians, designers, teenagers, movie stars, reporters and writers. Interest bordering on

passion can be found among textile and costume historians today, especially in the debate

over the true origins of denim. These experts have put decades of work into their research;

here are summarized the prevailing opinions about the birth of denim, followed by a

discussion of the way Levi Strauss & Co. has helped to contribute to denim’s movement

around the world.

In 1969 a writer for American Fabrics magazine declared, “Denim is one of the world’s

oldest fabrics, yet it remains eternally young.” If continuous use of and interest in an item

makes it “eternally young” then denim certainly qualifies. From the 17th century to the

present, denim has been woven, used and discarded; made into upholstery, pants and

awnings; found in museums, attics, antique stores and archaeological digs; worn as the

fabric of hard honest work, and as the expression of angry rebellion; used for the sails of

Columbus’ ships in legend; and worn by American cowboys in fact.

It is not a Hollywood-style production, better a fan movie made out of the passion of some fans, non profit and no budget.

EYE CANDY

I have to admit, I was pretty amazed when I came across this work. But then I was more amazed when I read that the designer was only 18. Dutch born, Rik Oostenbroek , may be young, but he’s got some mad skill already, and will presumably get better with time.
Although, it seems he emulates the hot style or trend going around in design right now, particularly seen amongst art groups such as depthcore and the KDU . No doubt, at some point this kid will find his place in the design universe. Natural talent, like his, will just mature over time, looking forward to seeing future projects a little further down the road. For now, take a look below for some selected pieces from his portfolio.

I feel bad that people believe this kind of stuff or any random rumor that is taken as fact because 'it's on the internet.' This rumor is particularly ironic because I was actually happy with a business class seat and was offered a seat in first class. A friend of mine was sitting in coach so asked if they could bump him up to business instead of putting me in first. There was absolutely no altercation in any way. There's been many a time where I've given someone in coach my business or first class seat in order to sit next to a friend I bumped into. I really could care less about where I sit on the plane. It's hard to deal with the rumors sometimes. As a good person with a warm heart, it does bother me. I'm not bigger than feeling pain, embarrassment, stress and worry. Have you ever been lied on??? How does it make you feel??? You wanna tell everybody it's not true right? Thank you to all my fans who still love and support me even though it's not the trend right now! I'm sleeping in the studio and I won't let you guys down!

THIS IS WHAT GROWING UP LOOKS LIKE

Dear Ray,

I know that you and I are clear on where we are along this journey together, but I get a lot of questions about us…especially after that reunion show fiasco…and thought it wise to openly express my thoughts and feelings – for clarity’s sake, for honesty’s sake, for peace’s sake.

It is true that we are in different places on so many levels. Yet, there is so much acceptance, understanding, and compassion between us. We share an unshakeable respect for each other’s position along this path of life. For me, it’s because I’ve been where you are. For you, it’s because it’s a place you’re on your way to.

I came on the show for the experience, and left with a sense of freedom I’ve never felt before…the freedom to love with the innocence of a child – against all odds. It was like a crash course in love! The funny thing about reality tv is that the life you lead while on set becomes your “reality”, and once filming ends, reality sets in. For us, that reality is that you love me for what I represent now, and I love you for who you’re destined to be. The blessing for me, though, is that I left there reassured of what I want to create for my true reality!

It goes without saying that growth is a part of life. What is more rarely addressed is the difficulty and challenges that may accompany that growth. It seems to me that whenever you find yourself on the precipice of change, right there in the bottom of the ninth, you’re thrown a curve ball…and it’s usually the same ball we’ve played with for a while, the one we’re comfortable with, the one that feels familiar…and it is very hard to resist hitting it…even if we know its likely we’ll strike out. There’s not a lot in your life and current lifestyle that would push you to change and grow. I get that. But there is something in your spirit that’s calling out to and longing for change. I stand here as a symbol of what that change may look like…once you’re truly ready.

In the meantime, let’s continue to celebrate who we are to each other in this moment.
